The blood emergency at the Red Cross isn’t over. The organization’s Todd Kulman tells WSJM News they experienced a shortage of donations in May and June, and that’s when they issued a call for help. The situation hasn’t much improved.
“The blood donations we have received since we first announced this emergency appeal are still going to the hospitals as fast as they are coming in,” Kulman said. “So, we certainly need more donations to meet patient needs and replenish that blood supply.”
Kulman tells us the Red Cross needs about 14,000 blood donations each day nationwide, and here in Michigan, they need about 1,000 donations each day. They’ve scheduled another round of drives. There’s a list of them below. Be sure to make an appointment first at 1-800-Red-Cross or RedCrossBlood.org.
