Lake Michigan College has been honored as a Most Engaged Campus for student voting in the recent elections.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge recognizes colleges and universities that excel in boosting student voter participation.
Tiffany Bohm, a Political Science Instructor at LMC, notes that students were enthusiastic about engaging in the voting process and helping the community get registered.
“I’m super excited,” Bohm says. “There was a lot of enthusiasm on campus around the community of Benton Harbor and St. Joe, Michigan. I think Lake Michigan College and our partners really contributed to getting students registered and then encouraging them to actually vote.”
Participating LMC students organized events, motivated their peers to vote, and connected with community organizations to promote voter registration efforts.
“We had some pretty significant goals like communicating to 500 students, registering 500 or more students, and I think we’re going to come close,” Bohm says.
LMC aims to continue its initiatives to encourage student participation and ensure that they are registered to vote not only in general and primary elections but for all voting opportunities.
