With all the extra spending during the holiday season, Consumers Energy has 100 ways you can save on energy and money.
Consumers Energy’s Matt Johnson says turning down your thermostat will help lower costs.
“Just by simply setting those thermostats temperatures lower when you’re not home,” Johnson said. “If you’re not home, you don’t need to be using as much energy as when you are home. For every degree you dial down your thermostat, you can save 1 to 3% on each degree that you dial down your thermostat.”
Johnson added that simple things like checking your windows and doors can help limit you energy costs.
Home heating costs account for about 30% of customer energy bills, with water heaters alone accounting for almost 15%.
