The fifth case of measles in Michigan this year has now been confirmed in Ingham County.

The case involves a child who was vaccinated before leaving Michigan. Although given to the child prior to going out of state, the exposure time came not long after the vaccination and that didn’t give enough time for full immunity to develop. Doctors say it takes about two weeks for the measles vaccine to kick in.

Nurses must now do thorough contact tracing and getting in touch with anyone who could have potentially been exposed. The Ingham County Health Department says the 1-year-old had been in various places in Okemos, Lansing, and East Lansing.
