Shock, sadness, and then a lot of questions around the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. That’s where area Congressman Bill Huizenga is right now after this weekend’s tragic shooting in Pennsylvania.

Interviewed on the WSJM Morning Show with Ken & Friends, U.S. Rep. Huizenga said after the initial shock wore off, he thought about how many people he’s helped get involved in politics and attend rallies like this past Saturday’s.

“You know, that could have been me and my kids behind the President. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the opportunity to be in the vicinity over my years of being a volunteer and someone who’s been interested in politics.”

Huizenga said the head of the Secret Service needs to come before Congress and review what happened.

“And of course, there’s a lot of details that are coming out. How do you figure out exactly what happened? That’s one of the reasons why I believe we need a congressional investigation on this.”

Huizenga said people need to tone down the political rhetoric – including campaigns that talk about the end of Democracy. He said it’s a tough time for the country but people shouldn’t lose faith.
