More than 400 students will celebrate their graduation from Lake Michigan College with its 77th commencement ceremonies next month.

LMC spokesperson Jennifer Shoemaker tells us the 411 graduates will walk the stage to accept degrees and certificates in a wide variety of studies. It’s always a delight for the college to honor them for their hard work.

It’s kind of the ultimate day for all of us who work there because our whole point in what we do is to help students, and we’re passionate about students,” Shoemaker said. “That’s why we do what we do, and it’s just so exciting to see them cross the stage, the looks of joy on their face, the smiles.”

Shoemaker says LMC has graduates from all walks of life, from recent high school graduates working toward a career to those who are further in life and looking to increase their options. She said she just spoke to a graduate who has finished her degree after having to take a five-year break due to life circumstances.

So many of our students don’t necessarily either don’t come from a background where parents or anybody have gone to college or they have things like this that come up they have to work full time and they do overcome a lot to get their degrees.”

Shoemaker says Lake Michigan College President Trevor Kubatzke will address the graduates during commencement, and there will also be two student speakers. That’s because with such a large graduating class, they’re actually holding two ceremonies that day.

LMC will livestream the commencement events on its YouTube channel.
